Are you deprived of sleep? To some this seems to be a problem not worth mentioning in the same breath with having cancer, going bankrupt or getting into a car accident, but the fact is that the effects of prolonged sleep deprivation can be far reaching and just as devastating. Likely, you are here because you suffer from some form of sleep deprivation due to disordered sleep patterns or to a diagnosed sleep disorder. This site is dedicated to you, the aspiring sleeper.
Solve Your Sleep Problem is about helping you get a handle on your sleeplessness; it’s about helping you take control and putting you in charge. It’s dedicated to helping you gain the confidence to work in partnership with health care providers to solve your sleep problem. Specifically:
- It’s about education – It’s learning about sleep. You may think you know what sleep is, but people who have been studying the subject for years, are only just beginning to grasp what sleep is all about. It’s learning about what causes people to have disordered sleep and what to do about it. It’s also about becoming familiar with the scores of medically diagnosed sleep disorders, over 80 at last count.
- It’s about recognizing different contributing factors to your sleep problem – sleep problems result from a host of factors and we want to provide you with tools for identifying them in your own life. Then, in partnership with sleep medical professionals, you can arrive at the likely cause and solution to your problem. When you meet with your health care provider, it is important that you come prepared with information that will aid them as they put toghether a complete medical history and work up a diagnosis. We hope we can provide you with the tools to do just that.
- It’s about giving you alternatives to resolving your sleep problems – Not all solutions work equally well for every person. Perhaps medication is called for, perhaps it’s a device, perhaps surgery is the most viable alternative or perhaps it’s involves some type of change in your behaviour. Whatever it may be, SYSP hopes to provide you with information on alternative solutions to your sleep problem.
- It’s about keeping you up-to-date – Advances in medicine, technology, research never cease, but in our blog you’ll find great insights into the latest approaches to helping you solve your sleep problem. You’ll also find interesting articles about famous people with sleep problems, the dangers of sleep deprivation, treatments and devices, sleep disorders and children, and many other topics.
